In the area of Forensic Meteorology, as Expert Witness he has contributed assessments of the meteorology of weather events associated with gross property damage, vehicular accidents, fire weather disasters, slip/fall injuries, structural damage (related to wind and rain) to large and small buildings, dust spread related to asbestos transport, and extreme rainfall leading to flood damage. In this he has participated in over 40 depositions, mediations, and trial appearances.
In other areas of his consulting practice, Dr. Monteverdi has provided forecasts for wineries, surfing and boating interests, and construction projects. He has been retained by home owners, architects and engineering firms to develop climatologies for proposed building sites.
Dr. Monteverdi's opinions have been sought by television and radio such as the NBC, CBS, ABC, and PBS affiliates in the San Francisco Bay and Los Angeles areas. He has been interviewed as an expert by the San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News and other local print media in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is recognized as an expert in the area of California tornadoes and severe and unusual weather in the state.
His research contributions in recent years all center on severe and unusual weather phenomena in California. This includes tornadic thunderstorms, winter cyclones and precipitation, Diablo winds and more. The referreed publications in this area can be found in the AMS journals Weather and Forecasting and Monthly Weather Review and the Electronic Journal of Severe Weather Meteorology. He has also authored or coauthored several Technical Memoranda and Technical Attachments for the Western Region of the National Weather Service and published several articles in the non-refereed publication Weatherwise.
